“When we were acquired by Mammoet in 2017, it was decided at the corporate level to implement an ERP package that was already being used by other subsidiaries,” says Dave Montforts of Conbit. As former General Manager, he was actively involved in that implementation. “In 2022, we bought Conbit back and became independent again. One of the agreements was that we had to have our own ERP solution in place within a year. That led to our recent ERP selection process.”

Supporting two business divisions with ERP

Over the past few years, Conbit has developed a second business division focused on delivering lifting systems for high-tech industries such as semiconductors and medical equipment. As a result, the ERP selection process had to consider the requirements of both business units. Dave explains, “Our project organization naturally has different needs compared to the part of the company focused on high-tech production,” explains Dave. “During the selection process, we worked to get a clear picture of how both types of operations could be supported. Both project management and production control were essential.”

“Isah’s software matched what we needed very well. The system works logically and intuitively, and it also has a pleasant look and feel.”

Making configuration choices independently in Isah ERP

Due to a recent acquisition by Conbit, it was decided to roll out Isah ERP in the first phase only for the project organization that focuses on construction and lifting activities in the oil and gas and offshore wind industries. This part of the implementation is now in its final stages, with go-live scheduled for June 1, 2023. A key difference this time is that Conbit is fully in control of the system setup. “During the previous ERP implementation in 2017, we had to follow Mammoet’s blueprint,” says Montforts. “Now, we have the freedom to configure the system ourselves. In Finance, the setup is relatively straightforward, but in the logistics part of our business, there are many more scenarios to consider.” Initially, it was challenging to move away from existing routines. But with support from Isah’s consultants, the team had several key breakthrough moments. “Eventually, we reached a number of ‘Eureka moments’ together and made some very strong decisions around the new configuration,” Montforts explains. “Our goal with Isah ERP is to at least match what we could do with our previous system — and, ideally, improve on it in ways that offer real value to our employees.”

One of the key improvements Conbit expects is simplified and more accurate time tracking. “As a project organization, it’s essential to have constant visibility into hours worked,” says Montforts. “In the past, it could take weeks after a project ended to get a complete view of time entries for each production order. And since we often work with freelancers, it added more complexity. With Isah, time tracking will be automated, giving us real-time insight into project statuses.”

Another major benefit is the ability to extract reliable data to guide decision-making. Dave states: “We also expect to extract a great deal of data from Isah to help steer the company. At Conbit, we place a high value on data and want to conduct various analyses. It is important to be able to trust that data. With all these improvements, we are trying to make Isah truly work for our business. I am looking forward to the go-live on June 1 and am especially curious to see where we will stand six months or a year from now.”
